We have just returned from our 2 week holiday in Kos. While shopping in Kardemena, we happened to see the restaurant. We returned that evening where we were greeted by a beautiful, friendly young woman from Liverpool. She immediately made us feel welcome. It is the most beautiful, romantic, real Greek restaurant. We were seated in a courtyard, lit by candle light and soft lamps. The linnen was immaculate, the smells that were wafting from the kitchen were just "drooling" a handsome male, who i believe was the Manager, was so charming, we were looking at the menu, we were not sure what to order, we were looking at the Meze dishes, thinking we needed 4 each as suggested on the menu. The lovely man advised us to allow him to order for us, saying "trust me" which we did. The meal was OUTSTANDING and wish I could have eaten more. I wanted to put my thoughts on here as I was so excited to share this "find"... I have told everyone to go and experience the real Greece and their fine cuisine! I guarantee that you will be impressed.

I know it may seem a little excessive to score Avli restaurant 10/10 on everything but even without comparing them to some of the other (most dire) restaurants in Kardamena they were hands down fantastic. You actually get to try real Greek food (really - they don't live off gyros!), the wine and home-made food is all very reasonably priced and seriously delicious. I would strongly recommend the bujurdi (baked cheese with tomato and small pieces of jaleponos -dribble!) and the lamb stamnas (slow cooked lamb shank with potatoes and broccoli). You must go here if you're looking for authentic Greece!

Avli restaurant, a converted old house, is centrally located behind the main travel agencies near the main square. Its a very beautiful and potentially romantic eatery (with the right company!) The staff are friendly and knowledgeable. They remembered what we had all eaten 5 days previously!

On our first night in Kos last year we were looking for somewhee to eat with both European and Greek food (as I am a little fussy!!) I didnt think I would like Greek food! WAS I WRONG!! I love it!
A nice girl met us at the entrance of Avli restaurant, which is on a busy street, and showed us to our table. Once inside it is hard to believe you are in the centre of all the nightlife round about. It is so peaceful. Very rustic (it has actually been built in an old grape crushing yard!! Was told this by the owner..). I loved the fact that you could sit outside or inside on the cooler nights.
The service from all of the staff was exceptional, I am not too keen on lamb and when i mentioned this they arranged specially to have Stiffado made with beef instead the following night!!
The owner was a very nice chap too, he came out one night and actually sat with us for about 4 hours!!!!!(the wine was flowing - another plus, the wine is lovely too!)
So if you are ever in Kardamena please visit AVLI its the best restaurant world wide!!!!!
